Community Connections Homeless Services Program, Lift Team, and Walter Reed Team participated in the Point in the Time Count (PIT) Wednesday January 22 from 10pm-2pm. Teams of Outreach workers and volunteers spread out across DC to count every homeless individual staying on the streets, in encampments, in the woods, under freeways, by business all throughout the district.
Sheltered individuals will also be counted during the PIT count to help provide a basic census count of the homeless population in DC. The PIT is completed across the nation.
What the PIT does not capture is if someone is couch surfing, has been able to stay with friends or family for a night or two, or was in the hospital.
PIT count is completed once a year in January.
