Trauma Informed Parenting Group Interventions
Community Connections has developed three parenting group interventions.
The first two interventions are bound together, and available for
purchase as a unit. The third was published as a supplemental chapter
in Trauma Recovery and Empowerment: A
Clinicians Guide to Working with Women in Groups.
The Impact of Early Trauma on Parenting Roles Women who
have experienced early sexual and/or physical abuse may find that
they experience difficulty assuming a parenting role. The impact
of trauma may leave a woman with symptoms and responses that make
parenting tasks difficult. This 14 session group intervention is
designed to address the connection between trauma sequelae and parenting.
The group will help a woman deal with her feelings and responses
so that she can be maximally available to parent her children.
Parenting at a Distance This 10 session group intervention
is designed to address issues of parenting for women who are involved
in some form of partial parenting, but who do not have full-time
residential custody of their children. Sessions help women to develop
strategies for dealing with caregivers, plan for how to be with
their children and mourn for children who are no longer present.
A Trauma Informed Approach to Parenting Skills This 11
session intervention was published as a supplemental chapter in
Trauma Recovery and Empowerment: A
Clinician's Guide to Working with Women in Groups. This 11 session
group intervention is designed to help a woman develop a cohesive
and stable identity as a parent so that she can provide adequately
for the safety and care of her children.
