Trauma Services

In the past decade, Community Connections staff became increasingly aware of the prevalence and pervasive impact of trauma -- especially of sexual and physical abuse -- in the lives of the people served by the agency's programs. We found that we could not effectively deliver the services we were mandated to provide without addressing the often overwhelming histories of physical and sexual abuse that our consumers have suffered and survived. While very few of these consumer/survivors identify traumas as their main, or even a significant, problem when they begin to participate in mental health or substance abuse services, it has become very clear to us as clinicians that traumatic experiences and their aftermath are closely interwoven with other presenting concerns.
