Field Placement Program for Graduate Social Work Students
Since 1985, Community Connections has provided field placement instruction for students at area universities completing degrees in social work, psychology, and counseling.
The student internship experience is a full one, providing community support services (formerly known as case management), group and/or psychotherapy services to clients. Students provide office and community-based services. They may work in the field advocating for consumers, assisting consumers with access to other community services, and coordinating services with various providers.
Students receive at least one hour of weekly individual supervision and participate in weekly training seminars. The student participates in a weekly clinical team meeting of clinicians who are discussing clinical issues as they relate to the consumers, problem solving, and supporting each other in this demanding work.
The student supervisors, all full-time clinical staff, meet weekly to discuss the progress of the students and receive supervision themselves so they, in turn, can provide the best quality field instruction possible for the students during their experience here at Community Connections.
