Reception, Safety, and Triage Specialist

Community Connections, a not-for-profit community behavioral health services provider, is hiring for a Reception, Safety and Triage Specialist (formally known as a Milieu Support Specialist) who will join a team of 5 staff providing reception, safety, and triage services at our main location 801 Pennsylvania Ave, SE. The Milieu Services team works along-side clinical and program staff in the main waiting area, throughout the building, and around the nearby neighboring streets to enhance person-centered access and promote community wellbeing. Due to the high visibility and frequency of interactions, the Milieu Services team are often the first responders, or may be the back-up support to a variety of situations involving clients, staff, or other stakeholders. The Milieu Support Specialist is a full-time and exempt position, reporting to the Manager of Milieu Services.   

Reception, Safety and Triage Specialist's Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Initiates person-centered, trauma-informed customer support and reception services with clients, staff, and visitors at various points of access including the main reception desk, throughout the building, and externally in front and around the building.
  • Assists clients with various requests such as: checking in (registering) for appointments, requesting walk-in service, verifying insurance, distributing client checks or replacement debit cards, etc.
  • Provides triage, referral, and care coordination with clients, staff, and visitors to address the presenting problem, support with de-escalation, identify additional resources, promote a warm transition between parties, and ensure resolution, etc.

Reception, Safety and Triage Specialist's Required Qualifications:  BA in psychology, social work or relevant human services discipline preferred. High School Diploma required plus 2 years relevant experience working in direct services settings (e.g., outpatient, residential, hospital, etc.), preferably with adults experiencing mental health, addiction, trauma, homelessness, poverty.
